The Obama Foundation Scholars Program in the USA is a remarkable opportunity for emerging leaders worldwide who are dedicated to addressing challenges in their communities, countries, and regions. It’s a fully-funded fellowship designed for leaders who embody values like community orientation, inclusivity, courage, hope, imagination, accountability, integrity, strategy, and resilience.

Please note that this is a full-time residential program and cannot be pursued simultaneously with another degree program. Preference is given to individuals who are not currently enrolled at Columbia University.

The program was initiated in 2018 and has welcomed 70 emerging leaders from 54 countries. It focuses on addressing critical community issues, including governance, environmental sustainability, healthcare access, gender violence reduction, and women’s rights promotion. Past scholars have become influential practitioners in various fields such as education, civic engagement, and sustainable development, making this program truly transformative.

Sponsored by the University of Columbia as part of Columbia Global and Columbia World Projects, this nine-month program for the seventh cohort will provide skill-based, academic, and experiential learning. It spans from summer 2024 to spring 2025 with the mission of empowering and uniting individuals worldwide to make positive changes. The goal is to nurture a generation of changemakers who can wisely tackle the challenges of our time and contribute to a better world. The program is part of Columbia World Projects, an initiative that aims to connect global needs with the research capabilities of Columbia University. It focuses on projects that have clear objectives and measurable outcomes, aiming to have a broad impact beyond the individual project.
